106 Months In Jail For Man Convicted Of Robbing Mr. Chow’s Smokehouse

Anthony Hinds, also known by the name Steven Samuel, will spend a total of 106 months when he appeared in court yesterday, charged with a series of offences arising out of a robbery at Mr. Chow’s Smokehouse.

The 63 year old, of Ariapita Road, St Ann’s, appeared in court on Friday.

On Thursday, officers of the Woodbrook Criminal Investigations Department (CID), responded to a report during the curfew hours of a break-in at Mr. Chow’s Smoke House on Tragarete Road, Woodbrook.

PC Audain, of the Woodbrook Criminal Investigation Department (CID), conducted investigations into the matter, as well as several similar reports which occurred in August, 2021.

His investigations led to the arrest and subsequent charge of Samuel for five offences:

• Two (2) counts of Shop Break-in and Larceny

• One (1) count of malicious damage

• One (1) count Breach of Curfew

• One (1) count of being found by night in possession of house breaking implement.

Hinds appeared virtually before the Port-of-Spain Eleventh Magistrates’ Court on Monday 23rd August, 2021 where he pleaded guilty. He re-appeared on Friday 27th August, 2021 before Magistrate Marissa Gomez and was sentenced to 70 months’ with hard labour on two counts of shop breaking and larceny; 30 months’ with hard labour for being found by night in possession of house breaking implements; three months’ with hard labour for breach of the curfew, and three months’ with hard labour for malicious damage to property.
