By Newsroom

In a two and half hour period, 17 motorists were fined for speeding as the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) pulled in TT$17,000 for the State.

They were fined for breaking the speed limit along the Lady Young Road, Morvant on  Wednesday during the hours of 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.

Officers of the North Eastern Division Traffic Unit (NEDTU) conducted “the speed exercise along the Lady Young Road where they had cause to stop and issue 17 fixed penalty notices to motorists for exceeding the speed limit of 50kph.”

“Over 70 per cent of the motorists fined were in excess of the speed limit by 20kph, with the highest speed recorded at 95kph,” the TTPS said in a news release.

“The latter is 5kph short of the speed limit of the nation’s highways; the Lady Young Road is not classified as such.

“The NEDTU stresses its zero-tolerance approach to speeding within the Division and is warning motorists that the Unit’s presence will remain actively felt,” the TTPS warned.
