58 Arrested For Crimes Against Children in T&T.

Fifty-eight (58) persons have been charged for crimes against children. The latest is a  42-year-old man who is due to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Tuesday, to answer to three charges; two counts of cruelty to a child, and one count of assault by beating.

This follows a joint investigation by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU) and the Child Protection Unit (CPU) of the TTPS  after a report of child abuse on Saturday 2nd May. The police report states  “it is alleged the suspect entered a bedroom of the home in which the victims were situated after which a quarrel ensued. The man reportedly became violent, causing the victims to contact the police.”

The 58 persons arrested for crimes against children were charged under the Children’s Act 46:01 of 2020.
