Having completed its preliminary investigation into Deputy Commissioner of Police, Irwin Hackshaw, the Police Complaints Authority will forward the matter to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will decide whether any charges will be made against the DCP. 

In a statement on Wednesday morning, the PCA said the investigation into the allegations of unusual financial transactions involving ACP Irwin Hackshaw was completed on September 11 th.

The probe was specifically related to Hackshaw’s acquisition of funds amounting to $2 million.

The independent investigating body met with Police Commissioner, Gary Griffith, on the matter on Tuesday. 

In late August, the PCA submitted its recommendations to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, recommending that disciplinary action be taken against Hackshaw. 

Commissioner Griffith accepted the recommendations and promised to act, however he heavily chastized the PCA for overstepping by issuing a public media release on the matter. 

The Top Cop said there will be ‘complicated issues’ as ACP Hackshaw is the most senior police officer and there are no substantive Deputy Commissioners to sit on a tribunal in judgment of Hackshaw.
