Family Calls For Investigation After Palo Seco Businessman Killed By Police

By Newsroom

The relatives of 30 year old Larry Simon are calling for an independent investigation to  be conducted to determine whether police acted wrongly in fatally shooting the businessman on Thursday night.

According to police reports, officers of the South Western Division responded to a robbery report at around 11pm at Simon’s home in Palo Seco.

Police reports state that upon their arrival, Simon allegedly approached them with a blade, prompting an officer to shoot him after he failed to listen to instructions to put down the weapon.

But Simon’s family have said those events are untrue.

His mother, Lana Joseph, reportedly said police showed up at their home and banged on the door, failing to identify themselves as law enforcement.

She said Simon was awakened and, out of fear the men had come to harm his family, approached them with a blade for protection.

The family claims at that point, one of the officers instructed another to kill Simon, causing him to attempt to run.

He was shot in the head and died at the scene.

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith declined to comment on the incident, saying it would be improper to do so given an investigation is ongoing.

Simon, of SS Erin Road in Palo Seco, was instantly killed after being shot in the head by police.
