Setting the record straight, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says any decision to reopen beaches requires the green light from Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley as the head of Central government.

Minister Deyalsingh’s statements came as a clarification after PDP Leader Watson Duke promised Tobagonians that one of his party’s first steps will be to reopen beaches on the island.

Duke made the comment on Tuesday, after the PDP secured a 14-1 win over the PNM in Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly election.

Minister Deyalsingh urged leaders to be responsible in the pronouncements they make on public platforms.

“Especially with the incoming omicron variant which is more transmissible now is the time for continued solidarity of all leaders to exercise caution,” the Health Minister warned.
