A prison officer with 29 years of service has been arrested at the Port of Spain Prison, after allegedly being found in possession of contraband.

The officer was apprehended during an early morning search at the facility.

According to an initial report, the officer was searched outside the prison by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, when he reported for duty at around 5:35am.

Several packets containing plant-like material and cigarettes were found on his person.

The officer was subsequently escorted to the Central Police Station where he is  currently assisting with enquiries.
