By Shirvan Williams

The Scrap Iron Industry is expected reopen before the end of the year according to a Facebook post on the PNM’s page.

The post noted that the Attorney General has announced that New Scrap Iron Legislation is ready and is expected to be passed before the end of this year.

Take a look at the full statement below.

“Senator the Honourable Reginald T.A. Armour S.C., Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs hosted a media conference today to update on matters pertaining to the Scrap Iron and Metal Industry.

The Scrap Iron Industry is expected to be reopened before the end of the year – well before the end of the six month ban that instituted last August. The President of the Scrap Iron Dealers Association, Alan Ferguson, on Friday morning, met with Attorney General Senator Reginald Armour SC, Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds MP, and Minister of Trade and Industry, Senator Paula Gopee-Scoon.

Ferguson told the media that whereas he is happy with the news, he is unhappy with the suggestion that the copper aspect will still be banned from export for the next year.”
