Health Minister On Highway Allegations: I Have No Horse In The Race

By Newsroom

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says neither he nor any member of his family owns or has interest in any parcel of land concerning the Cumuto Manzanilla Highway.

The Minister’s clarification comes in response to allegations levelled against him by Opposition MP Saddam Hosein, at the UNC’s Monday Night Forum.

MP Hosein claimed to have acquired papers from the Cabinet secretariat, showing Mr. Deyalsingh recused himself from deliberations on the State’s acquisition of the land.

But Minister Deyalsingh says this was false.

“The matter of recusals in Cabinet deliberations is the honourable, ethical and correct thing to do, designed to protect the public interest and is an integral part of good governance.”

“The public is advised that matters of recusals should not be weaponised to deliberately mislead the public. The public is assured that I will continue, as I have done as a public figure for over thirteen years, to always act in the public’s interest and to uphold the principles of transparency and integrity in public office,” Minister Deyalsingh said.
