The nation will bid a final farewell to the late former Prime Minister Basdeo Panday today, with a state funeral to be held at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts in San Fernando, starting 9am.
The public will be able to view the service via large TV screens which will be put up at Skinner Park.
Traffic restrictions are place in San Fernando until 1pm today.
Prior to the State funeral, a private funeral was held at Mr. Panday’s residence for close relatives this morning.
Following the service at SAPA, the public is invited to follow a procession in which Mr. Panday’s body will be transported under military escort along Mosquito Creek to the Shore of Peace Cremation site in South Oropouche, where he will receive final Hindu rites.
Basdeo Panday, Trinidad and Tobago’s fifth Prime Minister, died on New Year’s Day at age 90.
