TTPS Seize Over Four Million in Drugs and Marijuana

The TTPS has seized over TT$4 million worth of illegal drugs during a meticulously planned, intelligence-driven operation in the Central Division.

According to TTPS, Exhaustive investigations, coupled with precise surveillance, by a TTPS intelligence unit, allowed officers to zero in on a specific target, alleged to be a “stasher”. Between 2 pm and 5 pm on October 3rd, 2024, the TTPS conducted a series of targeted raids. During the execution of a search warrant at a home located at Temple Street, Bank Village, Carapichaima, officers discovered a major drug haul at the residence of a key suspect, who was taken into custody.

A thorough search uncovered a wardrobe padlocked for security, where officers found two black garbage bags containing:

• 11 packets of Colombian Creepy Marijuana, weighing 12.3 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of $1,349,888 TT.
• 13 packets of Imported Yellow/Lemon Kush Marijuana, weighing 6.99 kilogrammes, valued at $1,046,158 TT.
• 6 packets of powdered cocaine, weighing 1.12 kilogrammes, with a street value of $1,672,704 TT.
• 1 packet of crack cocaine, weighing 67 grams, with an estimated value of $31,131 TT.

The estimated value of the narcotics seized was $4,099,881.23. The operation, led by a specialized team consisting of officers from the intelligence unit, with operational support from Snr Supt. Northern Division-North, Sherma Maynard-Wilson, ASP Pitt, Sgt. Metivier, Cpl Foster and officers from the Northern Division North Task Force-South, Northern Division North Task Force-North, and the Canine Unit.

Commissioner of Police, Erla Harewood Christopher stated, “This operation is a testament to the strength and effectiveness of the TTPS’s intelligence-gathering and investigative capabilities, resulting in the seizure of these dangerous drugs before they could hit the streets and wreak havoc on our communities.”

The Commissioner added, “Illegal narcotics fuel addiction, empower drug dealers, and contribute to gang warfare, shootings, woundings and all manner of other serious crimes. Their destructive impact goes beyond individuals, tearing apart families and destabilizing entire communities.

This operation is another bold step forward and I assure you of our commitment to rid our streets of drugs, dealers and traffickers, to safeguard our citizens from the cascading effects of drug-related crime.”
