Opposition Leader Kamla Persad Bissessar has also extended her congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump.
In a statement, the UNC leader said “leaders who return to service carry not only the experience of their past term but also a renewed commitment to their country’s future with fresh energy and clear purpose.”
She added, “President Trump’s truly remarkable victory speaks to his inspiring resilience and commitment to the American people. He has survived assassination attempts, political persecution through the weaponization of the justice and financial systems and years of personal attacks, but he never wavered in his love for the United States of America.”
Trump has so far won 279 votes of the electoral college, surpassing the minimum 270 required to win the presidency.
Of the seven crucial swing states, Trump won North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and is ahead in Michigan, Nevada, and Arizona.
The vote counts show 71.6 million Americans votes for Trump while 66.7 supported Kamala Harris.
