PM Dr Rowley Travels to Guyana for the Second CARICOM-India Summit

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is expected to travel to Georgetown, Guyana later today (Tuesday 19th November 2024). According to a press release from the Office of the PM, Dr Rowley will participate in several meetings convened by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The release further noted that:

“Dr Rowley will join regional Heads of Government for the second CARICOM-India Summit and engagement with the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, the Hon. Shri Narendra Modi.

The summit will focus on strengthening cooperation in agriculture and food security, health and pharmaceuticals, and science and innovation among other areas.

While in Guyana, Dr Rowley in his capacity as Chairman of the CARICOM Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket will also chair a meeting of the committee. Later this week Prime Minister Rowley, who is the Lead Head with responsibility for Crime and Security will participate in CARICOM’s second regional symposium on violence as a public health issue.

In April 2023 Trinidad and Tobago hosted the first regional crime symposium which was aimed at promoting dialogue and regional action for violence reduction and crime prevention.

The delegation which will accompany the Prime Minister includes the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Hon. Dr. Amery Browne, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator the Hon. Reginald Armour SC and Minister in the Ministry of Legal Affairs,
Senator the Hon Renuka Sagramsingh-Sooklal.

Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister the Hon. Stuart Young SC will act as Prime Minister until Dr Rowley’s return.
