By Shirvan Williams

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has announced that the Salary Review Commission’s (SRC) report on increases for members of the government has been accepted. The increases will include the opposition bench and others, like President Christine Kangaloo and Chief Justice Ivor Archie.

Dr Rowley made the announcement, a short while ago, during a Post-Cabinet Media Briefing (Nov 28).

The proposed increases include the PM’s monthly salary of $87,847, which is about a 47 per cent increase over the current $59,680. The President should receive $81,170, retroactive to April 1, 2023, which is an increase of 26 per cent.

The SRC also recommended the Opposition Leader’s salary be increased from $29,590 to $52,159, effective October 1, 2023, which is a 76 per cent increase.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice’s current salary which is currently $50,350, has been recommended to increase to $60,919.

While addressing the media, the Prime Minister added that the proposed increases should not be delayed as it not only affects government ministers but thousands of employees who have been waiting for years for a potential pay adjustment. He also said that the position to implement the recommendations has been taken without “fear and retribution.”
