Police seized a quantity of high-grade compressed cannabis in the Western Division during last night’s intelligence-led operation in the St. James district.
Around 7:45 pm on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, ACP ‘Tactical Support’ Collis Hazel, with the coordination of Snr. Supt. Montrichard, Supt. Frank, and ASP Pierre, and the supervision of Insps. Piquette and Haynes conducted the operation.
According to the TTPS, during the exercise, officers searched a house located at Kandahar Street, which resulted in the discovery of a suitcase, a black garbage bag and a crocus bag.
Further checks revealed the bags contained 70 packages of cannabis with a combined weight of 36.6 kilogrammes.
Meanwhile, Western Division Task Force officers conducted an exercise between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. yesterday, which resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect in connection with robbery offences, a 38-year-old suspect for shooting offences in the Diego Martin area, and a 19-year-old for larceny.
Investigations are ongoing into the above matters. Meanwhile, the Tactical Support Unit arrested seven persons and seized two high-powered rifles and quantities of cannabis during Operation BLAST exercises, conducted during the December 2024 period.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police ‘Tactical Support’, Collis Hazel, Operation BLAST – ‘Bringing Land And Sea Together’ utilises all branches in executing targeted operations under each section leader.
He added that during December 2024, five operations executed by the Guard and Emergency Branch, the Inter-Agency Task Force, the National Operational Task Force, CASU and ERP/E999, resulted in the seizure of the following:
One AK-47 rifle with 28 rounds of ammunition
One AR-15 rifle
1.2 kilogrammes of cannabis
Seven arrests
581 Stop and Search
329 tickets issued.
