Police Seize Drugs And Ammunition During Nationwide Exercises

Officers have arrested three persons, seized firearms, ammunition and narcotics, during coordinated anti-crime exercises conducted in Southern, North Central, POS and North Eastern Divisions.

In the Southern Division, officers conducted an exercise between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on 24th March, 2026, within the San Fernando and Gasparillo Police Districts, under the ongoing Operation Steady Guard initiative.

During the exercise, eight stop-and-search checks were conducted, with officers focusing on stolen vehicles, public safety and intelligence gathering. The following persons were arrested:

A 44-year old woman of Lynappe Street, Reform Village, Gasparillo, for the offence of Possession of Cocaine.

A 26-year-old man of Lynappe Street, Reform Village, Gasparillo, for the offence of Possession of Cocaine.

A 53-year-old man of Stone Road, Piparo / Pinto Road, Arima, for the offences of Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.

The operation was coordinated by members of the San Fernando Enquiries Team, Southern Division Road Enforcement Task Force, San Fernando Crime Patrol Unit and the K9 Unit.

In a separate exercise, officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) seized 1.2 kilogrammes of cannabis during an anti-crime exercise conducted yesterday within the Port of Spain and North Eastern Divisions.

At approximately 3:40 pm, IATF officers, with assistance from the Canine Branch, conducted a search of a bushy area along 8th Avenue, Barataria. During the exercise, officers discovered and seized one block of compressed cannabis along with fourteen transparent packets containing the drug. The total weight of the narcotics amounted to 1.2 kilogrammes.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The exercise was spearheaded by ACP Hazel, Senior Superintendent Ramnarine, Superintendent Ramsook and ASP Singh, and coordinated by Inspector Edwards and Sergeant Adams.
