Bakr Wants Sedition Charge Dropped

By Newsroom

An application has been filed in the High Court on behalf of Jamaat Al Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr who wants his 2005 sedition charge dropped.

Bakr’s application comes on the heels of last week’s decision by Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earl Caddle to drop a charge brought against Watson Duke President of the Public Services Association.

The Magistrate based her ruling on a judgement hand down by Justice Frank Seepersad on January 13th  who ruled that Sections 3 and 4 of the Sedition Act is unconstitutional.

The judge’s ruling has been appealed by the State.

Bakr’s trial for sedition ended in a hung jury on 2012 and a retrial was ordered.
