Guyana’s opposition PPP/C files injunction to stop the deceleration of general election results

By Newsroom

More drama surrounds Guyana’s general election as the PPP/C has successfully secured an injunction against GECOM, the Chief Election Officer (CEO) and the Returning Officer for Region Four, to stop the declaration of the election results. The injunction states that the election results can only be read in compliance with the law.

It further states that the results cannot be read unless there is compliance with the process set out under Section 84 of the Representation of the People Act. The injunction was filed after the PPP/C and the GECOM agreed to have further verification of the results following a dispute over the authenticity of data that was recorded during voting on Monday.
