Demerits Points System Delayed Again.

By Newsroom

The introduction of the Demerits Points system, the new Traffic Ticketing System and Red Light Camera Enforcement System has been delayed again. This time, it’s because of the coronavirus. But the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) did not give a date for when the system will be implemented, given that Trinidad and Tobago remains under lockdown until April 15th, at least. “This decision was taken in the best interest of all citizens, as we navigate the many challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic,” the MOWT said. “The general public is reminded that when implemented, this new System will usher in a new and modern era in traffic law enforcement and road safety in Trinidad and Tobago. The new traffic management systems will have a positive impact on the administration of justice, national security and road safety in Trinidad and Tobago. “During this period, the Ministry urges all drivers to exercise due diligence and responsibility on our nation’s roadways,” the MOWT said. As part of the move to flatten the curve in the Coronavirus pandemic, the Licensing Office remains closed until April15.
