Newly appointed Minister of Education, Dr. Nyan Gadsby Dolly, and Junior Minister, Lisa Morris-Julian, have been tasked with undertaking a radical reform of the education curriculum over the next five years.

At Wednesday’s swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley revealed that it was no coincidence he entrusted the roles to two women.

“I ask the national community to take note of the fact that I have put the nation’s children in the hands of two mothers, and I trust that they could not be better placed” Dr. Rowley said.

And while both Government ministers have their say over how that reform will take place- at both the primary and secondary school level, Prime Minister Dr. Rowley had one main request.

“Without waiting for the outcome of such reform, I would publicly ask that these Ministers ensure that whatever revision is done- whatever reform comes about- that the whole question of citizenship, which used to be called civics, be added to the curriculum of Trinidad and Tobago.”

Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly previously served as the Culture Minister in the last Cabinet lead by Dr. Rowley, a portfolio which has now been given to Senator Randall Mitchell. The Ministry has also been adjusted and will include tourism under its umbrella. She is also the Member of Parliament for St. Ann’s East.

Meanwhile Lisa Morris-Julian formerly served as Mayor for Arima, before being elected as the Member of Parliament for  D’Abadie/Omeara.
