The Mighty Sparrow is in a new phase in his life, making the decision to get baptized. 

Birth name Slinger Francisco and fondly called ‘Birdie’, the veteran entertainer was dressed in all white as he rededicated his life to God in Queens, New York on Saturday, having already been baptized as a child.

Sparrow, who has lived in Queens for the past few years, was baptized by Claudius Morgan, a former calypsonian, who carried the sobriquet “Samaritan Singer”.

Sparrow’s baptism came a couple months after he celebrated his 87th birthday in July.

Though his music career has been placed in the background in recent years, the Mighty Sparrow once dominated the space, earning the unofficial title of ‘Calypso King of the World’ with his hundreds of mega hits which include Saltfish, Jean &Dinah, Congo Man, Lying Excuses, and Marajhin.
