The Beetham Gardens community activist, Anderson Wilson, who was accused of cursing Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds in 2018 was sentenced to seven days imprisonment for the offence. He was able to avoid jail time after he applied for bail under Section 133 (A) of the Summary Court Act.

The Act states that bail can be obtained in circumstances where a person is sentenced to less than 30 days in prison and intends to appeal. He was granted $10 000 bail.

The charges against Wilson came about after Hinds claimed that Wilson said: “For 56 years the PNM did (expletive) nothing for Beetham. Hinds is only promises you giving and doing nothing for the (expletive) people.”
