Advertisements for Police Commissioner, Deputy CoP To Be Issued Next Month

By Newsroom

Advertisements for the post of  Police Commissioner and Deputy CoP could be issued as early as next month, restarting the process to appoint a substantive head of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission Judith Jones, told a Joint Select Committee of Parliament  that while she was hesitant to give an end date for the process, she is hopeful it will be completed by the end of the year.

To avoid further hiccups after last year’s controversy involving the old PSC board, Jones said the Commission will seek legal advice at each stage of the process.

“At present, we’re actually looking at the system and process to ensure we can arrive at a process that will meet all the requirements – transparency, finance – we’re really actively working on it,” Jones said.

Asked whether the procedure will be different to the last recruitment procedure for Cop/Deputy CoP, Jones said, that of necessity there will be some differences in the process as the Legal Notice for the process has changed.

“Our parameters are slightly different. It’s difficult for me to commit at this stage without the Commission having taken a decision on how we’ll proceed.” Jones said.

Mc Donald Jacobs has been acting in the post of Police Commissioner since December 2021, after a court ruled that former Top Cop Gary Griffith’s appointment to act in the post when his contract ended, was unconstitutional.
