America’s Path To Healing: Joe Biden Delivers Victory Speech, Pledges To Unify Country

By Newsroom

Now is the time for healing.

This was the prominent message shared by US President-elect, Joe Biden, as he delivered his victory speech at an event in Delaware on Saturday night.

“I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify; who doesn’t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States” he said.

His words came as a breath of fresh air to many, and came on the heels of an election fraught with controversy, largely credited to now defeated President Donald Trump.

The Democrat, who will officially become the 46th President of the United States in January 2021, took time to address Republican supporters, extending an olive branch.

“It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again,” Mr Biden said. “And to make progress, we have to stop treating our opponents as enemies.”

With the coronavirus pandemic being the main issue for majority Americans and a key campaigning point for the Democrats ahead of election day, President-elect Biden announced plans to form his coronavirus response committee to ensure it is ready to implement decisions from his inauguration day in January.

More than 74 million votes voted for Biden, more than any other Presidential candidate in US history.

The Democratic party’s win is also historic as Vice-President elect, Kamala Harris will serve as the first woman VP- and the first Asian-American and African-American  to occupy the post.

As she took the stage on Saturday ahead of Biden, she expressed gratitude for her new role.

“While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” Harris said.

She thanked Americans for placing their trust in the Biden-Harris ticket.

“When our very democracy was on the ballot in this election, the very soul of America at stake and with the whole world watching, you ushered in a new day for America,” she said.
