Amid Spike In Cases, PM Tells Police: “Enforce Covid Laws”

By Newsroom

From mask wearing to no alcohol being served during in-house dining, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is being encouraged to enforce the Public Health Regulations, making an example of persons or entities who continue to show wanton disregard.

It comes from Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, during Saturday’s Covid-19 press briefing.

His advice comes as T&T has seen a steady increase in cases over the past week, with 74 new cases reported in the last three days alone.

Speaking directly about businesses serving alcohol at their establishments, the PM warned that an example would be made out of them.

“If you’re breaking the law, the police has the authority to prevent that condition from prevailing to the detriment of the population…if you are doing that, I would read the papers and I would see the police closing down your business place,” he said.

Dr. Rowley urged the public not to become weary of following the public health measures set in place to mitigate the spread of the virus.

“It is very easy for us to lose our position of not being overwhelmed by the virus. Do not become Covid weary, because it only takes the drop in the guard from a few people…to put us on a slope to go backwards,” the PM said.

He also called on leaders across the board, including churches, coaches and the Opposition United Congress, to do their part in responsibly advising their followers.
