Angostura Limited is denying claims made by President of the National Trade Union, Michael Annisette, that the company failed to disclose the Covid-19 status of employees.

Angsotura says two of its employees tested positive for the virus over the last few days, and insists other workers were immediately informed and sent into quarantine.

“As soon as the Company was informed, strict health protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health were followed which the SWWTU is fully aware that the Company always follows,” the company said in a statement.

“As per health protocols, employees identified as primary contacts were immediately informed that their colleagues were tested positive and were instructed to quarantine at home. In keeping with Angostura’s health and safety policy, the departments in which the employees worked were sanitized. On May 24 th , Angostura took a decision to do further sanitization on the premises and asked employees from the rum production line to return home to facilitate a safe working environment,” it stated.

The company said it was surprised by the statement issued by Mr. Annisette, stating both parties had cordial talks regarding Covid-19 protocols on Monday.

“Angostura would like to emphasize that at no point, details of positive cases were withheld from the trade union and affected employees. The Company continues to work together with the SWWTU with respect to contact tracing protocols as outlined by the Ministry of Health. Angostura’s priority is the health and safety of all its employees and at no time will Management allow any party to jeopardize the well being of employees. The Company has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of its workplace,” it defended.
