Arrested for smoking while driving

A San Juan man who appeared to be driving while smoking marijuana, with a child in the backseat, landed himself two charges when the cops stopped him on Pashley Street in Laventille on Thursday afternoon.

The 39-year-old man of El Socorro, San Juan was  arrested  and charged  with  “driving a motor vehicle under the influence of a dangerous drug namely cannabis and exposing a child to a dangerous drug namely cannabis.”

Officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force said they “observed the driver smoking a lit cigarette of unusual length and a male child seated in the back of the vehicle”.

  Elsewhere 11 persons were arrested for various offences and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Northern Division’s Crime Suppression Unit yesterday in  Arima and Malabar.

   During the exercise, four suspects were held for shooting and gang-related offences, four for marijuana possession and three for outstanding warrants. A total of 680 grammes of marijuana were seized during the exercises.
