In a history making move, Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden has named an African-American woman as his running mate ahead of the President.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate.,” Biden tweeted on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, adding “Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau. I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”
Once a rival for the top job, Harris, a California senator of Indian-Jamaican heritage had long been considered the front-runner for the position.
The former California attorney-general has been urging police reform amid anti-racism protests.
Mr Biden will face President Donald Trump in the election on November 3rd.
Vice-President Mike Pence remains the Republican incumbent’s running mate.
