BORDER REOPENING: Covid-19 PCR Testing To Be Offered At Piarco Airport From Saturday

When Trinidad and Tobago’s borders reopen on Saturday, travellers will be able to have Covid-19 tests conducted at the Piarco International Airport, with the Airports Authority promising results in “finite time. 

In a statement on Wednesday, the Airports Authority said is has partnered with the St Augustine Medical Laboratory (STAML to provide rapid COVID-19 testing as well as RT PCR COVID-19 testing for travellers and members of the public.

STAML, has achieved ISO 15189 international accreditation on their Covid-19 testing as well as on the entire testing menu of their Molecular Diagnostics lab. It is the first and only lab in the Caribbean to achieve this milestone, indicating that STAML is ranked with the best in the world.

“With a highly qualified staff, STAML was the first private laboratory in Trinidad and Tobago to conduct COVID-19 PCR testing. Further to this, within the Caribbean, they are the only lab that is internationally accredited for Covid-19 variant testing.” the Authority said.

Starting on Saturday 17th July, STAML can be found on the mezzanine level of the Atrium at the Piarco International Airport. Conveniently located to provide reliable and accurate testing to travellers and members of the public requiring results within a finite time period.

Mr Hayden Newton, General Manager of the Authority believes that “innovative partnerships such this will place our country on the path to a strong recovery”.

The Authority looks forward to the increase in activity at the Piarco International Airport and reminds stakeholders and airport users to observe all COVID-19 protocols that have been implemented for the safety of all stakeholders.
