BREAKING: SEA Preparation Classes Discontinued

By Newsroom

Beginning tomorrow, August 6th, the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) preparation classes will be discontinued and students will instead have to do their studies at home.

The announcement was made moments ago by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, at a press briefing on COVID-19.

It comes just over two weeks before the examination date of August 20th.

Dr. Rowley made it clear, that the date of the exam will remain as is, barring the chance there is an “explosion of cases”.

As he made the announcement, however, he condemned the prior call from the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA),  for teachers to stay away from classes given the risk of the virus.

As it stands, classes for all students are set to begin on September 1st; the PM said government will monitor the climate for another 10 days, after which it will decide whether that date must be adjusted.

At least nine schools have been closed since SEA classes began, after students tested positive or had been a primary contact of a COVID-19 patient.

Dr. Rowley said, however, that closing schools cannot be a long term solution, adding that government will commit to “some element of risk control and risk management”.
