#Budget2023: HEALTHCARE OUTLOOK

The Ministry of Health received the second largest budgetary allocation for fiscal 2023 at $6.892 billion

Here are some of the developments planned for fiscal 2023 in healthcare: 

-The new Ministry of Health administrative building will be completed in 2023, and will bring all government services and affiliated organizations at one location. Finance Minister Colm Imbert says the new building will see government saving over $12million in rent per year.

-The 504-bed central bloc of the Port of Spain General will be commissioned in 2024, providing surgical, pharmaceutical, laboratory, ophthalmology and pediatric care.

-The San Fernando General Hospital is being refurbished to provide cardiac surgeries.

-The new160-bed Sangre Grande Hospital will be completed in 2023, providing medical, surgical, trauma and orthopedic care.

-Government will allocate $210 million in fiscal 2023 to be distributed to healthcare workers as a special payment for their efforts during the pandemic. Finance Minister Colm Imbert says this will include ex-gratia payments to roughly 20,000 health workers.
