By Newsroom

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has ordered a Central Audit of the Restoration of the Red House.

Dr Rowley made the announcement in the House of Representatives on Monday afternoon when he gave a breakdown of the costs in the project which was broken down into 22 packages.

All the contractors, according to Dr Rowley, were local, with one exception.

In the break down of how the TT$441 million was spent, the largest single sum spent was TT$60 million spent on electrical work and TT$ 51 million for doors and windows.

Other packages ranged from 38 to 4 million dollars.

Now that parliament has returned to the Red House, Prime Minister Rowley explained that the space at the Waterfront Complex will be utilized by the judiciary.

The shift makes way for 40 courtrooms, 24 hearing rooms and five meditation rooms. “Given the expansion of the Judicial system the Cabinet has already approved 357 new job positions to populate the Criminal Division which will expand its reach and effectiveness at the Hall of Justice,” the Prime Minister explained.
