Central Bar Owner Arrested And Charged For Breaching Regulations

A bar owner, who was warned by the police on Sunday that he was in breach of the Public Health (2019 Novel Coronavirus) Regulations, was arrested the following day. Ernest Todd (in photo) did not heed the warning by officers of the Central Division Task Force Unit even though he gave them the assurance he would comply with the law. The following day the cops received a call that Larry’s Bar located at First Street, Dow Village California was in full operation. When they got there at 1 30PM on Monday, “the officers observed approximately 13 persons, buying and consuming alcoholic beverages on the said compound. “Persons were also seated around several tables consuming alcoholic beverages,” the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said in a news release on Tuesday morning. Todd was arrested and charged and granted bail in the sum of TT$1000 at the Couva Police Station7 He is due to appear before a Couva Magistrate tomorrow. The regulations state that “it shall be an offence, during the period specified in Regulation 3, for any person, to conduct the business of a bar, whether or not the person is a licensed person under the Liquor Licences Act.” Todd is the second owner/proprietor of a bar to be arrested and charged for breaching the Public Health (2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-Cov) Regulations.
