The Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has condemned a video circulating on social media in which the action of a driver, could have resulted in serious harm or even death to a child.
“In a video, posted on social media, a child is seen standing on the side step of a moving vehicle. The Authority takes very seriously the driver’s irresponsible action and has reported the incident to Police.”
In a statement they said: “In fact, Section 4 of the Children Act, 2012 states it is a criminal offence to expose a child in a manner likely to cause suffering or injury to the child’s health, and if found guilty the person is liable to a fine of five thousand dollars ($5,000) and to imprisonment for six years, or to a fine of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) and imprisonment for 10 years. As such, the Authority is calling on the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) to launch a full investigation into this unfortunate incident immediately.”
The Authority also praised the member of the public who intervened and chastised the driver, which resulted in the dangerous action being discontinued.
