Christine Kangaloo, government’s nominee to serve as this country’s next President, has resigned from her post as Senate Vice President, clearing the way for a vote of the Electoral College for the position this Friday.
News of her resignation was confirmed in a statement issued by the Parliament on Tuesday evening.
The Senate will meet at 10am on Wednesday where a new President of the Senate will be elected.
When the Electoral College, which comprises all members of the House of Representatives and Senate, meets on Friday, a vote will be cast for the appointment of a new President to succeed Paula-Mae Weeekes, with the race between government’s nomination, Christine Kangaloo and Senior Counsel Israel Khan, the Opposition’s nominee.
