CMO: Delta Variant Community Spread

By Newsroom

The Delta variant is officially at the level of community spread.

This is according to Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rohan Parasram, as he drew reference to five of six new cases of the variant reported last night, which could not be linked to recent travel.

Dr. Parasram was speaking at Monday’s Covid-19 media briefing.

Four of the five cases were in contact with previously confirmed COVID-19 patients. “Those cases themselves would not have been deemed Delta as yet and of course testing is ongoing,” Dr Parasram said.

To date, Trinidad has confirmed 17 cases of the Delta variant, however earlier cases had been detected from recent travellers and officials had been able to isolate the patients due to its quarantine requirements upon entry into T&T.
