Commission Of Enquiry Into Paria Diving Tragedy Begins Today

By Newsroom

The public will be able to tune in when the Commission of Enquiry set up to investigate the deaths of four professional divers back in February, begins its work today.

Procedural hearings will be live-streamed from Tower D at the International Waterfront Centre in Port-of-Spain, under the chairmanship of Jerome Lynch, Queens Counsel.

Back in July, Justice Lynch gave an assurance that the Commission will find out how and why the men died, adding that if there has been any negligent or criminal conduct, it will be uncovered.

“You have my assurance that we (the commission) between us, will find out how they died and why they died. If there has been negligent conduct, we will identify it… if there has been misconduct, we will identify it and if there has been criminal conduct we will identify it,” he said during a media conference on July 8th.

At the time, he noted the public’s comments and criticisms over the start of the Enquiry, but made it clear that he would not be “hurried” in completing the enquiry.
