CoP Urges Street Food Vendors To Adhere To Covid Rules

By Newsroom

Commissioner of Police, Gary Griffith has noted, with concern, the upsurge in street food vending and with it the convergence of crowds at such places, who seem not to be adhering to the Public Health Regulations.

The Commissioner has issued a warning that non adherence to the regulations will result in the shutdown of these street food vendors, as he said it is their responsibility to ensure that all customers conform to the regulations.

“By observing social distancing, not gathering in groups exceeding 5 in number, wearing their face masks and most importantly providing proper sanitization stations for their customers,” a statement from the TTPS read.

“If they are unable to control those waiting to acquire their products, the TTPS would be forced to close them for that day,” it added.

Commissioner Griffith said he understands that citizens must earn an honest living, however, it must not come at the expense of the public at large.

The police will be enforcing the regulations, especially in light of the sharp increase in the number of persons infected with COVID-19. The same protocols will apply to the public markets where Police Patrols will be monitoring the adherence to all Public Health Regulations to ensure compliance.
