Cops Arrest 15 Suspects As Crackdown On Illegal Firearms Continues

Police made 15 arrests over the weekend for firearm related offences, with nine guns, an assortment of ammunition and narcotics seized during exercises across several divisions.

In the latest exercise, a loaded AR-15 rifle was seized along Simeon Road Petit Valley, with two suspects, ages 18 and 28, arrested in connection with the find.

The suspects are expected to appear before various magistrates on firearm, ammunition and narcotic possession charges.

In a separate incident, North-Eastern Division officers responded to a report of robbery on Saddle road San Juan, where a black Kia Rio motor car was intercepted in the Lahoe Laventille Road San Juan area with three occupants.

One of the occupants a 21 year-old man of Laventille Road, San Juan was arrested with a firearm and six rounds of nine millimetre ammunition. The two other suspects were detained relative to the said report and are to be placed on identification parades for other recent robbery and larceny reports. 

And in a separate incident earlier, a 36-year-old Curepe man was arrested for possession of a Smith and Wesson firearm, possession of nine rounds of 40-millimetre ammunition, possession of 217 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of 71 grammes of marijuana.

In Cunupia, five persons are detained and are being processed for possession of one Luger pistol and a quantity of marijuana.
