COVID-19 UPDATE: 69 Nationals To Return This Week

By Newsroom

Sixty-nine nationals are expected to return to T&T this week, as government continues its phased entry of those abroad.

Among them are 29 people from cruise ships, 30 from Caracas, Venezuela and 10 nationals in Guyana.

Those returning from the cruise ship will be quarantined at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua upon their return, while returnees from Venezuela, will be kept at the Brooklyn facility in Sangre Grande.

The ten people returning from Guyana will be housed at the UWI Debe Campus.

Speaking at Monday’s virtual media conference, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said “In all we have 69 people we are expecting this week, and when you add that to the 67 we have in care right now that will take us up to about 136. We cannot bring all back all at one time. We are working with the Minister of National Security to have a staggered approach to bringing back people as quickly as possible.”

As for the COVID-19 case which was recorded over the weekend, the patient  remains warded at the Home of Football in Couva. Minister Deyalsingh said  luckily, there will be no need for contact tracing to be done on the recent COVID-19 case which was recorded over the weekend, given the patient had been immediately sent to quarantine upon their return home.
