COVID-19 UPDATE: Four Discharged Overnight, CMO Searches for Local Spread

By Newsroom

No new COVID-19 cases have been reported for a third consecutive day and four persons were discharged from the Sangre Grande step down facility overnight. The count of positive cases remains at 114 (see stats below), but Chief Medical Officer, Dr Roshan Parasram believes  that even with 1380 tests to date, we are just moving into the “sporadic phase where there are one or two cases of local spread in between.”

These are people with mild symptoms and are moving around like normal in the supermarkets or pharmacies, in the open markets and even in their households.”We are actively looking for clusters in the community, groups of cases in a particular locality and are using the GIS system to trace primary, secondary and tertiary contacts, “ Dr Parasram told reporters at the virtual news conference on Tuesday morning.

“We are looking for the outliers, that’s what what we do on a daily basis,” he emphasized, adding,”if we see two cases that are geographically linked we need to put extra pressure to make sure it does not go up,” he further explained. Of the 1380 tests have been submitted to CARPHA  1157 were “unique individual tests” while 223 “were repeated tests”.
