One of the nationals who returned from a cruise ship on Friday has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 118.
This was confirmed by the Ministry of Health in an update on Sunday.
The patient has been taken to the Caura Hospital.
This is the country’s only active case of the virus.
The Ministry says tests for 153 patients were completed and the other 152 were negative. Test results for 155 others are pending.
The Ministry assured that all other cruise ship passengers remain quarantined on the vessel and there is no risk of local transmission to Trinidad and Tobago.
On Saturday, Health Minister Deyalsingh said “We have to work on the assumption that these 306 cruise ship people have the potential to be positive. We have to work on the assumption that the 200 students coming in from Jamaica and Barbados have the potential to be positive. If a significant portion happens to be positive then we’ll have to have facilities”, reinforcing that the threat of the virus has not been eradicated.
