Dennis Becomes Youngest Chief Secretary Of The THA

By Newsroom

Newly Elected Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly, Ancil Dennis.

Ancil Dennis has been unanimously elected to serve as the Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).

Wednesday’s vote was cast in a special sitting of the Assembly Legislature, by nine assemblymen from thePeople’s National Movement’s (PNM).

The vote for the 33 year old Assemblyman comes after Kelvin Charles resigned from the post at the end of April. Mr. Charles’ decision followed a big  loss in the Tobago PNM leadership election, to Tracy Davidson-Celestine.

Mr. Charles- who still serves as an Assemblyman- was notably absent for the vote.

The appointment is another history making moment for Mr. Dennis, who represents the Buccoo / Mt. Pleasant district. He was first elected as a THA member back 2013, making him the youngest person to serve as an Assembly man at the 26 years old. He was also the THA’s youngest Deputy Presiding Officer having been appointed in 2014.
