Despers’ Icon badly burnt

By Newsroom

Just over the weekend, at 80 years old, Dennis  Ash was in the Desperadoes Panyard taking notes on his double second pans from arranger Carlton Zanda Alexander.

On his birthday, Tuesday, Tash, as he is fondly called,  was warded at the Port of Spain General Hospital, awaiting surgery after he suffered severe burns on both his legs in an  incident at his home in Laventille.

And there’s  an urgent appeal for blood for the veteran panman who has played in all 11 Panorama victories for the mighty Desperadoes Steel Orchestra who were most recently Panorama champions in 2016.

Tash, as he is fondly known, has been playing with Desperadoes since 1961 and has participated in 50 of the band’s 52 Panorama preliminaries and 49 of the 54 finals in which the band has performed.

This year,  because of his injury Tash will not be playing in the Panorama competition for the Desperadoes.

His family, which made the appeal for blood, is grateful for the love and support and privacy as he begins his upward climb of healing and restoration.
