Deyalsingh: “Too Early To Celebrate, Many More Still Need To Be Vaccinated”

By Newsroom

While Trinidad and Tobago has surpassed its first vaccination target of having 188,900 people fully vaccinated against Covid-19, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh doesn’t want citizens to declare victory just yet, as he says it’s still a long way to achieving herd immunity.

He was speaking at Saturday’s Covid-19 press briefing in Tobago.

With just over 380,000 people having received at least a first dose, Minister Deyalsingh says that number might sound significant, but cautioned “when you flip it” there are still 620,000 people eligible to be vaccinated that are yet to receive a first shot.

To this end, the Minister urged people to take advantage of the ease of access to vaccines at all 109 healthcare centres across the country and at the 11 mass vaccination sites.

Minister Deyalsingh also made a special plea to those working in the retail and service industries, such as hairdressers, barbers, etc, to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest possible time.
