“Disingenuous”: Communications Minister Rejects Claim That Regional Corporation Not Equipped For Disaster Response

By Newsroom

The Chairman of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation says their emergency response vehicles may be grounded today, even with inclement weather on the way.  Dr Allen Sammy says this is because their funds for diesel will be exhausted.

But this claim was dismissed by Communications Minister Symon De Nobriga, who tweeted: “As a former Chairman of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, I know that funds can be moved from vote or internal account, to another if required.”

He continued, “Saying you don’t have funds to buy gas/ diesel because you didn’t get releases is disingenuous.”

At 8am on Tuesday, the Met Service, in its Tropical Storm Warning #6, advised that the centre of Potential Tropical Cyclone Two is moving closer to T&T and is currently located about 530 km East of Trinidad.

The system is moving toward the west near 23 mph and a westward or west-north-westward motion is expected for the next few days. On the forecast track, the system will pass near or over portions of the southern Windward Islands tonight.

Another update will be issued at 11am.
