Following the death of 50-year-old Nigel Bernard Welch, an inquest has been ordered.

According to the TTPS, Welch died on January 4th, 2023 following an alleged altercation with another man over money. During the incident Welch, of Laventille Road, San Juan received a wound to the back of the head.

He was at Pritzgar Road, on Tuesday 3rd January 2023, when he was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex for treatment. Welch subsequently succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday 4th January 2023.

The instruction for the inquest was given to investigators on Monday 16th January 2023 by Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard SC.

A male suspect, who had been held by police in connection with the matter was released on Monday 16th January 2023, on the advice of the DPP.

Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, Insp. Ramjag and Sgt. Radhaykissoon with the assistance of PC Benaldo, all of Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Two.
