MP for Oropuche East, Dr. Rooal Moonilal has been granted $500 000 in compensation for defamation. Newspaper columnist Juliet Davy was ordered to pay the amount following a judgement which was delivered earlier today at the Hall of Justice in Port-of-Spain. 

High Court Judge Robin Mohammed ruled in favour of Moonilal, that two columns which were written by Davy, that were published by the TNT Mirror were damaging to his character. The articles alleged that Moonilal had amassed $2.58 billion because of corrupt practices.
