Republic Bank – which also operates in Ghana- will help finance that country’s Gas Processing Extension Plant and a Malaria project, according to Ghanian President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The disclosure came during the President’s welcome remarks on the arrival of Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley in Accra, Ghana.

Dr Rowley is a guest of honor at Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations, today.

“We have strong ties between both countries that date back to unfortunate incidents, but we have survived them, President Addo stated.

“We have signed an agreement for the elimination of double taxation which has not been ratified and we ought to make concrete ratification,” he said referring to Dr Rowley’s previous visit to Ghana.

“In a short time,” Dr Rowley responded while acknowledging that Republic Bank is looking at Ghana as the gateway into the southern belly of Africa.

“We are looking at an air services agreement that will make a direct link between the Caribbean and Ghana,” Dr Rowley said.

In addition, the T&T Prime Minister explained that Dr John Alleyne, who works in the Office of the Prime Minister, will remain in Ghana to learn about selected plant material to establish in Trinidad and Tobago with special emphasis on grounds provisions “like we used to grow”.

On Thursday  Dr  Keith Rowley participated in a Grand Durbar held in his honour at the Palace of the King and Queen of Okyenhene, in Kyebi, Ghana. In addition, Dr and Mrs Rowley visited Jubilee House, the official office of Ghana’s president.
