EBC Report On New Electoral Districts For Tobago Passed In Parliament

By Newsroom

The report of the Elections and Boundaries Commission on the creation of three additional electoral districts in Tobago has been passed in the Lower House.

Twenty-one government MPs voted in its favor, while all 18 members on the Opposition bench voted against.

The creation of the three new districts is meant to break the current six-six deadlock and pave the way for fresh THA elections in Tobago.

Condemning the Opposition’s lack of support for the report, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley questioned whether the party believed the EBC lacked independence and impartiality to conduct its work.

“Are you saying that the boundaries that are before us in this motion here today are boundaries that were drawn by members of the Government, the Cabinet or the Prime Minister?” he asked.

“The only answer can be that nobody in this Government had anything whatsoever to do with any one of those boundaries.”
